I started my quest to get “Lessons from Moonshine” produced at distilleries, because of Paul Mullin’s story of his play “The Sequence” being popular with biotech companies. I posted a couple months ago about how they produced it at meetings and symposiums: Look for unexpected audiences for your plays.
Elizabeth Kenny and “Sick”
Another playwright who’s found audiences outside the theater is Elizabeth Kenny, who wrote and performed a play called “Sick,” about the horrifying effects of a common prescription drug, and the snowballing, cascading collection of drugs she was prescribed to counteract the “side effects.” She’s performed it at the National Empowerment Center and for the Seattle Dermatological Group, as well as presenting the story at the Harvard Medical School.
I have to find out how she got these opportunities. There must be helpful hints for all of us. Only clue I have so far is that someone posted on her Facebook page, about a friend who was a professor in the pharmacy department at URI, saying they were interested in bringing Elizabeth out there to perform.

I sent an e-mail about this project to Mark Routhier, who is the literary manager of the National New Play Network. Surprise! He wrote back and said he helped Paul Mullin get those productions at biotech symposiums and meetings!

I think it’s important to make contacts in the theater world. 😉 In the world in general!
