This playwright named Brian Doyle is submitting a play a day for an entire year! He puts me to shame. Here’s his blog:
A few things he mentions that I hadn’t thought about:
- He has a flowchart! It takes you through his process of deciding where to submit his plays. http://playwrightbriandoyle.weebly.com/1/post/2012/07/day-61-the-playwrights-flowchart.html
- He doesn’t submit to a theater unless he has three or four plays that would be good for them.
- Even if a theater says they take open submissions, he won’t send one right away. He’ll write to the literary manager with a few synopses of plays he thinks would be right for them. And he’ll ask them if they’d like to see any of them.
He’s getting good results!
